As businesses across the US look forward to the end of the month, staffing hours have been showing signs of a downward edge. According to the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, temporary staffing hours were down 13% year-over-year for the week ending April 1st. Commercial staffing hours were down 16% while professional staffing hours were down 4%. On a week-over-week basis, temporary staffing hours declined by 0.4%, commercial staffing hours decreased by 0.3%, and professional staffing hours were down by 0.7%.
Regarding the outlook for the full year 2023, SIA predicts a modest decrease in commercial staffing and mixed trends in professional staffing. US temporary staffing employment has not matched last year’s levels since December 2022, and lost 10,700 jobs in March 2023 (-4.1% year-on-year).
