An IT services company has agreed to settle claims for underpaying visa fees to the tune of $9.9 million – that’s according to the US Attorney’s Office.
L&T Technology Services Ltd., with an office in Edison, New Jersey, is accused of acquiring the cheaper B-1 visas instead of the more costly, and more difficult to obtain, H-1B visas for temporary foreign workers. According to the office, while B-1 visa fees range between $200 and $300, H-1B visa fees range between $4,000 and $6,000.
“When companies apply for work visas, they must follow the rules and pay appropriate fees, just like workers,” said Mathew Broadhurst, special agent in charge, Southeast Region, US Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to vigorously pursue those who circumvent worker visa programs.”
The Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General, is sending a clear message to international companies providing services or personnel to the US. Non-compliance with visa regulations is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Companies using foreign workers must comply with all US government requirements
