This Week in US Staffing: Hours Down During Thanksgiving Week
The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator has revealed that temporary staffing hours worked for the week ending Nov 25th (“last week measured”) were down -10% compared to the corresponding week a year ago. On a week-over-week sequential basis, temporary staffing hours worked were down -13.8%, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday related business closures.
Hourly data from the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator shows that temporary staffing hours completed in commercial occupations (industrial and office/clerical) were down -11% year-over-year, while professional temporary staffing hours were down -7%. Year-to-date, hours worked in Commercial occupations decreased by an average year-over-year growth rate of -11%, and hours worked in Professional occupations decreased by an average year-over-year growth rate of -7%.
BLS data and the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator suggest that the pace of decline may be stabilizing, with the sequential gains we have reported since the Labor Day Holiday in agreement with the modest increase in temporary employment reported by the BLS for October.
