The definitions of MSP and VMS, managed service provider and vendor management system, are outlined below. An MSP is a service segment of the process outsourcing industry whereby a company takes on primary responsibility for managing an organization’s contingent workforce program. MSPs generally provide their clients with either a proprietary or third party vendor management system and may have a physical presence on the client’s site. A VMS is an application that acts as a mechanism for business to manage and procure staffing services. VMS systems often include the management of Statement of Work (SOW) consultants and outsourced services within their scope, along with supplier management, order distribution, consolidated billing, risk mitigation, headcount tracking, and workforce analytics.
