This week’s analysis of the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator reveals that professional and commercial staffing continues to trend upwards. US staffing hours worked for the week ending August 5th were down -9% compared to the same week a year ago according to the Indicator. Hours completed in commercial occupations were also down -9% year-over-year, and professional occupations were down -10% year-over-year.
On a week-over-week sequential basis, temporary staffing hours worked were up 1.3%, continuing the upward trend that began two weeks ago. Commercial staffing was up 1.3% and professional staffing hours were up 1.2%. Compared to the same week two years ago (in July 2021), commercial staffing was down -12%, and professional staffing was up 3%.
Combined, these data suggest that the US staffing industry remains a large market and offers ongoing opportunities for staffing firms with a competitive advantage. SIA’s latest forecast report, published on April 4th, discussed the market dynamics for both skill segments of staffing in more detail.
