The healthcare landscape in Massachusetts is changing dramatically – and it’s costing more than ever. According to Commonwealth Magazine, healthcare expenditures in the state rose by 9% in 2021 after hitting a 2.3% decrease in 2020. The Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association reported that hospitals alone spent a staggering $1.3 billion on temporary staffing in 2021. But the Center for Health Information and Analysis revealed that the total healthcare spending in the Commonwealth for 2021 was even more eye-watering, ringing in at a whopping $67.9 billion – that’s an average of $9,715 per resident.
