Interest in Talent Platforms and Work Services Platforms is growing among temporary workers in North America. According to our 2023 survey, one in eleven temporary workers reported using Work Platforms in 2022, including those providing services to businesses (such as Upwork, Freelancer, etc) and those providing services to consumers (such as Door Dash, Uber, etc.) The overall trend has been steady around this level of usage since 2016.

Consumer-related Work Platforms were more popular among survey respondents. While the majority (87%) of temporary workers reported being either unfamiliar with or uninterested in these platforms, 8% reported earning income from them as well as another 5% who are considering using them within two years.

A similar pattern of usage was seen for Business-related Work Platforms; 73% of survey respondents reported being either unfamiliar with or uninterested in these platforms, while only 3% said they were earning income from them and another 3% are considering using them.
