The US staffing industry experienced its highest commercial staffing hour levels in more than two months during the week ending June 17th. According to the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, commercial staffing hours completed during the week fell by -5% compared to the same time a year ago, while professional staffing hours were down -8%. On a week-over-week basis, temporary staffing hours were up 5.4%, with commercial hours increasing by 6.3% and professional by 2.6%.
The Professional Staffing indexed value was 127 for the week ending June 17th, while the Commercial Staffing indexed value was 81. The US Staffing indexed value was 95. Commercial staffing’s Indexed value of 85 was last reached on the week ending March 25th, 2023. Over the past five weeks, hours worked in Commercial occupations had fallen by an average year-over-year growth rate of -9%. The year-over-year decline in the Indicator is directionally consistent with the decline in temporary help employment as reported in the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly Employment Situation reports from December 2022 to May 2023.
